Akira Suzuki was named President and CEO of Marubeni-Itochu Steel America Inc. “MISA” and General Manager for the Americas in April 2020.
Prior to joining MISA, Mr. Suzuki, served as an Executive Officer of the Automotive Steel Products Division at Marubeni-Itochu Steel Inc. “MISI” in Japan before being promoted to Managing Director in April 2020.
Mr. Suzuki’s career started in the 1980s when he joined ITOCHU Corporation after graduating from Rikkyo University in 1983 with a bachelor’s degree in law. His first overseas assignment to the United States was in the early 1990’s when he joined ITOCHU America Inc. During his 7 years assignment in the U.S. Mr. Suzuki held various senior executive positions in ITOCHU’s Metals division.
During his career span with ITOCHU Corporation, Mr. Suzuki was promoted to various leadership positions before joining Marubeni-Itochu Steel Inc. in 2001 after ITOCHU Corporation and Marubeni Corporation merged their metals division to form MISA’s parent company, Marubeni-Itochu Steel Inc.
Mr. Suzuki’s global career has taken him to the United States, Australia, Indonesia along with many assignments in Japan before his latest assignment to the United States.
